This is a much more relaxed time for bee keepers. However, there are some tasks to take care of now. It is the time to make sure your bee hives are insulated and water tight and that each colony has enough food. The bees should have up to 16kg of their own honey supplies to see them through the cold winter. It is important to make sure there are no obstructions to the entrance to each hive so that the bees can have free access, on pleasant days, to the surrounding countryside.
I use this quiet time to make up new frames, build new hive stands and put together new brood boxes and supers for storing next year's delicious honey!
